9 Day Victoria Falls, Harare, Zimbabwe
DAY 01: USA / SOUTH AFRICA. Tour members will gather at the ticket counter at the airport two hours prior to their departure to South Africa. Dinner and breakfast will be served in-flight.
DAY 02: JOHANNESBURG. Upon our arrival at the Johannesburg airport we will be met and taken toour hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure. Dinner will be served at our hotel.
DAY 03: JOHANNESBURG / VICTORIA FALLS. Morning transfer to the airport in time to connect with your flight to Victoria Falls. Upon your arrival in Victoria Falls, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. To the Tonka tribes people, such an awesome spectacle could only mean this was the domain of God. To David Livingstone, a scene “so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight”. Today this scenic phenomenon is one of the world’s greatest natural miracles. This afternoon enjoy a sunset cruise on the mighty Zambezi River.
DAY 04: VICTORIA FALLS / HARARE. Mosi-oa-tunya… the local people called it - the smoke that thunders. Morning sightseeing of Victoria Falls, an area of natural beauty which is protected and remains virtually unspoiled - one and a half times as wide and twice as high as Niagara Falls. This afternoon transfer to the airport for your short flight to Harare. Upon your arrival in Harare you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
DAY 05: HARARE. Morning sightseeing of Harare. Visit the Mbane Musika Market. Drive along the broad and fragrant avenues lined with magnificent bauhinias and jacaranda through the downtown area filled with elegant sky-scrapers. Among the many interesting places to be visited are the Parliament Building, National Gallery, and National Museum. This afternoon visit Chapungu Kraal in the suburbs, a reproduction of a 19th century Shona village - complete with traditional healer and soothsayer. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
DAY 06: HARARE / GREAT ZIMBABWE. Morning departure for Great Zimbabwe, a massive complex of stone buildings just outside Masvingo. Constructed by the Bantu ancestors of the Shona over a period of 400 years beginning in the 11th century, Great Zimbabwe served as the headquarters of the vast Monomatapa kingdom, an empire that once included all of today’s Zimbabwe, northern South Africa, parts of Mozambique, Zambia, Malawi, and Tanzania. See the Hill Complex, once known as the Acropolis. Evidence indicates that the hill complex was occupied for at least 300 years. See the Great Enclosure, the largest ancient structure in sub-Saharan Africa. The mortarless walls reach heights of 11 meters and in places are 5 meters thick. Return to Harare for overnight.
DAY 07: HARARE. Full day at leisure for your personal exploration or shopping.
DAY 08: HARARE / JOHANNESBURG / ATLANTA. to the airport for your flight back to Johannesburg to connect with your return flight to New York.
DAY 09: U.S.A. Arrival back in the U.S. in the morning local time, the close of an unforgettable journey.
